About Guilford College

Guilford College is an independent, liberal arts college in Greensboro, which is a city in the US state of North Carolina, with a population of more than 260 000 inhabitants, which makes it the state's 3rd largest city and the largest city in Guilford County and the surrounding Piedmont Triad metropolitan region.

The college was founded by members of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), in 1837, and it is the third-oldest coeducational institution in the country, the oldest such institution in the South, and the fourth-oldest institution of higher learning in the state. It offers its students `an educational experience that emphasizes the study of human values and the inter-relatedness of the world's knowledge and cultures`, providing `39 major fields in which students can pursue studies in depth.`

Athletics

Guilford's athletic teams are known as the Quakers and they compete in NCAA Division III. Their distinctive colors are maroon and gray.
